ARCHITECTURE 491-
STUDIO 5A

INSTRUCTOR: ZACH PAULS
In the first stage of the project we have to reach a research and inventory of the site boundary and adjacent vicinity. Maps, notation, writings, then compose onto site maps which reveal and explain a multi-valent understanding of a wide range of influencing factors that shape, define and control a site’s potential and constraints. At the end of a phase, we have to have a composed and layered drawing that can convey historic and contemporary information to an audience without the need to verbally explain its meaning.
On phase two we have to create a “position” based on the research and assessment of phase one. This “position” considers the NEW understanding of the complicated set of constraints, bot historical and contemporary that define a problem. This test multiple scenarios and solutions that develop a firm position on a preferred design option to carry forward into phase three.
For the last phase, we have to choose a single design option that was identified in phase two carefully, methodically and thoroughly represented in multiple 2D and 3D mediums. This phase continues the requirements of iteration but the focus will be on representational iteration of diagrams, drawings, photographs, models, etc.
